The seasons are changing on Long Island, as winter snow is giving way to the blooming flowers and chirping birds of spring. Before you jump into spring-cleaning your estate home, here are three spring décor tips that’ll liven up your home while embracing the beautiful transformation that’ll soon be happening outside.
Spring Décor Tips and Decorating Ideas
- Bring the Outside In
Spring is about new beginnings, as symbolized by flowers, nests, and eggs. Add soil, moss, and spring flowers to a shallow birdbath to create a miniature indoor garden. Decorative birds nests and artificial eggs can also be added to create a unique nature experience inside your home.
- Lighten and Brighten
When the weather warms, you shed your winter wear. Naturally, your furniture should do the same. Swap your decorative velvet and silk pillowcases for some covered in linen or cotton. Opt for soft pastels and fresh patterns to add a lively feel to each room. In the bedroom, you can complement your new pillows with a coordinating duvet, bedspread, and bed skirt.
- Dye Bright
Add a punch of vibrant colors to your home by adding food coloring and white flowers to a glass vase or jar. While the water itself adds color to the room, the flowers will soak up the water to create a bright bouquet.
Now it’s time to put these spring décor tips to use in your Long Island estate home. When you’re done, share the finished product with us on our Facebook page by clicking the link here.
March 3, 2017 – More delicious news for residents of The Hamlet Estates at St. James: Shake Shack will be opening their third outpost on Long Island in early March at nearby Smith Haven Plaza, just a few minutes from the community’s gatehouse entrance. This will be the brand’s first foray into Suffolk County, but its reputation is well known throughout the metropolitan New York area. Shake Shack is a critically acclaimed, modern “roadside” burger stand known for its 100% all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus beef burgers, chicken (no hormones added ever), griddled flat-top hot dogs, fresh-made frozen custard, crispy crinkle cut fries, beer, wine and more. The company is also known for its eco-friendly corporate culture so be sure to check out the carefully sourced materials used in the restaurant’s cool interior finish as well!
In January, Long Island home prices increased over 7% from the previous month. According to a recent Newsday article, the rise in values is due to a combination of low inventory, rising interest rates, and an influx of buyers from New York City.
The Long Island MLS reported last Monday that the number of homes for sale is down 22% from a year earlier. With few homes to choose from and interest rates expected to continue increasing through 2017, savvy homebuyers are acting fast to close deals as quick as possible. As such, in Suffolk County, the number of closed transactions was up 9.5% compared with the previous year.
So what’s this mean to you if you’re looking for a home in Long Island? It means that a new construction custom or semi-custom estate home like those in The Hamlet Estates at St. James may be your solution to low inventory while allowing you to take advantage of rising values.
As The Hamlet nears closeout, there are limited lots still available for purchase. Starting from $729,900, it’s crucial that you don’t wait long if you’d like to call one of these luxurious residences home.

Feb. 16, 2017 – Well-known outdoor retailer L.L. Bean will be moving in just a few minutes from the front gates of The Hamlet Estates, with a 17,000-square foot store now under construction in the Smith Haven Mall. This will the company’s first outpost on Long Island. “We’re going to be infusing a bit of the Maine spirit into Long Island,” said Ken Kacere, SVP and GM of Retail at L.L. Bean. “We’re thrilled to be coming into Suffolk County!” L.L. Bean offers apparel and footwear, as well as gear for hiking, fly-fishing, kayaking, winter and camping. The store is scheduled to open later this spring but for those who can’t wait to shop, L.L. Bean has opened a pop-up shop just outside the entrance of the future store in the Macy’s wing.
Now that the holidays have come to an end and the seasonal hustle has slowed, it’s the perfect time to start looking for your dream home. While spring and summer may get a lot of hype for being the best time to buy, here are three reasons why you should get a head start and begin looking now.
- Beat the Crowd
- Better Prices
With less competition come lower prices. By acting now, you can get in before prices increase during spring and summer. The lower price may also enable you to get a larger home than you’ll be able to afford during peak season.
- Lower Interest Rates
In 2017, interest rates are expected to rise, making now the best time to lock in a lower rate. Just like with the better prices, the lower rate may help you afford a more expensive home.
When the droves of homebuyers pour into the market during spring and summer, the increased competition could make it more difficult to get the home of your choice.
This is especially important in a coveted new construction community like The Hamlet Estates, which only has seven new estate lots remaining for purchase, as well as a limited selection of Builder Showcase homes available for immediate occupancy.
